Activities in Alta Valtellina to combine with a husky excursion in Valdidentro
Becoming a musher for a day is a dream come true at the Husky Village in Alta Valtellina, where you can experience the thrill of driving a real sled pulled by huskies along a natural track in the woods, in winter and at any time of year (even in summer: discover sleddog with karts). The experience with sled dogs in Valdidentro, which lasts a total of about an hour – including the moment at the end of the excursion when you can get to know and pet the huskies -, can be the highlight of a day or weekend in the mountains with the family or as a couple: here are some suggestions of other activities to combine with sleddog in Valtellina.

A walk in Val Viola
The Husky Village, one of the most modern sleddog facilities in Europe, is located in Arnoga, in the heart of the magnificent Valdidentro, and just a few dozen metres away from the start of thesleddog tours is the entrance to one of the most beautiful alpine valleys in Upper Valtellina: Val Viola. This is a lateral valley that connects the Bormio area with the Engadine and Val Poschiavo, on the one hand, and with Val Grosina and the middle Valtellina on the other; but beyond its historical and geographical importance, today Val Viola is a privileged destination for excursion lovers because in every season it offers an undemanding route, also suitable for children and families, and breathtaking natural scenery. In winter you can enjoy a snowshoe hike in Val Viola along the flat trail that winds through the forest, in summer an easy mountain trek along the dirt track that leads to the Val Viola hut and the pass of the same name.
A bike excursion to the Cancano lakes
The sleddog itinerary, which is covered with sleds and husky-drawn karts, is a ring-route that follows the first kilometres of the Arnoga-Cancano Decauville, built in the early 1900s as a narrow-gauge railway for the construction of the dams above Bormio. Today the decauville, having abandoned its ancient function, is a dirt track that winds through the woods of Valdidentro and connects Arnoga with the famous Torri di Fraele, which dominate the valley and rise as an access point to the Cancano lakes fed by the Adda.
Thanks to its low gradient, with the exception of the last stretch when you are already in sight of the towers, the Decauville can be travelled in fine weather on foot or by bicycle. It can be the occasion, once the dog sled ride is over, for a mountain bike or electric bike excursion in the mountains, to discover unspoilt landscapes and authentic natural paradises.

A trip to Livigno
Husky rides are one of the most popular attractions near Livigno, and just as there are those who take a break from skiing to try sleddog in Valdidentro, so too can one continue the day in the mountains after the sleigh ride with a trip to Livigno. Livigno is certainly not lacking in opportunities for fun at any time of year: among the activities to do in Livigno during the day, we can mention shopping in the town centre, taking advantage of the duty-free zone, lunch or dinner in restaurants offering typical Livigno and Valtellina cuisine, the countless opportunities for outdoor sports in summer and winter – from Larix Park to snowshoeing – and recreation in nature for children (discover the best experiences for children in Livigno).
A thermal bath in Bormio
On one side Livigno, on the other Bormio: the Husky Village is located right between the two most famous resorts and ski resorts in Valtellina. This means that before or after sleddog you can stop off in Bormio and treat yourself to half a day of absolute relaxation in the thermal waters that flow from the Alps. In fact, Bormio is home to three thermal spas that make use of the underground springs already known to the ancient Romans to offer regenerating wellness treatments: Bormio Terme, the swimming pool in the town centre with hot water, pools and games for children, saunas and Turkish baths, and the renowned Bagni Vecchi and Bagni Nuovi, on the on the way to the Stelvio Pass, with many wellness treatments and rituals.
