The event in Valtellina dedicated to sleddog in the company of two professional mushers
Husky Village, the centre specialising in sleddog excursions in Alta Valtellina, is pleased to present ‘Alla scoperta del cane da sleddog’ (Discovering the sled dog), the first event in the province of Sondrio dedicated to these splendid animals and the world of sleddog and aimed at professional mushers, sleddog enthusiasts and anyone interested. The event will take place on 5 and 6 October 2024 at the Husky Village, in Valdidentro.
Discovering the sled dog: the event and speakers
The idea of organising an entire weekend in Alta Valtellina focused on sled dogs and the practice of sleddog stems from the organisers’ daily commitment:
- Lorenzo Tilli is the founder of the Husky Village, a unique structure of its kind in Italy and Europe that guarantees wellness, hospitality and training to more than 60 huskies and offers the opportunity to try the incredible experience of driving a sled pulled by a team of huskies through the forests of the Valtellina mountains. A professional musher, he was a pupil of Joe Redington Sr., founder of the Iditarod, in Alaska before setting up his own project in the Alps;
- Fra Indi, founder and president of the Jaranga Cultural Association, is a musher who has been leading solo and self-sufficient explorations since 2016 in the company of his Siberian Husky dogs. Through his travels and the related sharing and dissemination project (The Project), he searches for a balanced relationship between man and nature and invites people to recognise the ecological emergency that stands in the way of harmony with the planet.
It is precisely the two mushers who will be the exceptional speakers at the event, during which they will talk about their experiences and adventures together with their faithful sled companions. Alongside these encounters, the weekend will also include practical and demonstrative moments: on both Saturday and Sunday, there will be two outings aboard husky-drawn karts (in the months when there is no snow, in fact, the dog teams train and have fun racing the karts instead of sleds) along the 5 km route that runs along the first stretch of the Arnoga-Cancano Decauville, in an Alpine natural setting of rare beauty and tranquillity. At the end of each tour, there will be time for discussion and sharing among the participants, and there will also be an opportunity to familiarise oneself with the dogs housed in the Husky Village.
